Hidden Gems of GT Road
Shalimar and the tombs the city forgot
The Grand Trunk Road out of Lahore is lined with Mughal monuments nobody visits: a gateway to a lost garden, a wet nurse's tomb, a kiln older than the Fort. We drive, we stop, we walk in.
Everyone knows Shalimar Gardens. Almost nobody knows that the road to it passes a dozen other Mughal buildings, most of them hemmed in by workshops and housing, all of them extraordinary if you stop.
We start at Shalimar itself, then work back toward the city: the pink gateway of Gulabi Bagh, the tomb of Dai Anga who nursed Shah Jahan, the great brick kiln called Buddhu ka Awa, the cypress-tiled tomb of Sharf-un-Nisa, and Begumpura, a neighbourhood with more Mughal remains per lane than anywhere outside the Walled City.
Small group, one vehicle, lots of getting out. The GT Road is loud and the monuments are quiet. That contrast is the whole tour.

Questions before you book.
How do I book a tour?
Bookings are made through our website. Pick a date on the Upcoming walks page and tap Book. We recommend booking in advance, as spots on our walks are limited.
How do I pay?
Tickets are sold through High Tribe, our ticketing partner. Tap Book on any date and you will complete payment there. For private tours, schools and companies, we send payment details directly.
Where do the tours start?
Each route has its own meeting point, which we share with you once your booking is confirmed. Most walks begin in or around the Walled City.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as our routes cover narrow lanes and uneven ground. We also suggest modest clothing, as many sites are places of worship, plus water and a camera.
